About

As with most working ranches, the 4R is rich with history. In years past, mules were used to turn the soil and bring in the harvest of wheat, milo and cotton. Cattle, sheep, goats, and an abundance of wildlife have all foraged in the valleys and hillsides. In the early 1970s, the barn we converted to kennels housed the first Simmental cattle in the state of Texas, and they wore the 4R brand. There are remnants of a cowboy line camp along Bandera Creek, and the dam on the Hondo Creek was part of the New Deal Works Program.

Today our focus is on providing great quail hunting fields, and raising & training quality gun dogs. Each of our hunting fields has its own unique topography, flora and level of impact. As beautiful as the ranch and hunting courses are, we are most proud of our dogs. Not only do they help provide for our livelihoods, but they are our friends.

We cater to small hunting groups at the 4R. The Ranch is our home, and once you have hunted with us, and experienced the 4R brand of hospitality, we are sure you will think of the 4R as your home away from home.

We are located 1 hour northwest of San Antonio in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. If you are looking for a half-day hunt, or multiple day hunt, we can tailor a hunt to fit your needs.

The hunting lodge is comfortable, quaint and homey. There are 3 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and shower. There is a large great-room, 2 dining areas, and all the amenities of home at your disposal. The hunting lodge sleeps 12 comfortably and can accommodate 15 with the use of rollaway beds.

The back, or south side of the lodge boasts a large deck shaded by hundred-year-old pecan and walnut trees. 4R Ranch Booking Policy

We appreciate each and every booking made at the 4R, and are honored that you chose us to host your hunt. With that being said, we run a seasonal business and have a limited window of time to make hay. Cancellations and “No-Shows” put us in a precarious situation because of the preparations made for each and every hunt. We will do our level headed best to fill any cancelled slots, but can make no guarantees we can do so. This is especially true if the cancellation is made 30 days prior to your hunt date.

Our booking and cancellation policy is simple:
– Once your hunt date(s) are booked, you are responsible for 50% of the hunt cost. If you cancel within 30 days of your hunt, you will be responsible for 100% of the hunt cost.
– Applying the cancellation fee is the least favorite thing we do at the 4R. However, we know that we provide the best hunting experience there is to be found anywhere and we do it at prices that are affordable. Deviating from our cancellation policy would force us to raise all of our prices, and that is something we refuse to do.
– Payment: You can use cash, check or credit card for payment.
– The 4R does reserve the right to cancel or reschedule hunts based on unfavorable weather conditions. This rarely happens and applies primarily to dove and game-bird hunting.
